Match Report for the Sunday - 27th April against University of NSW

Coach Darren Sewallt - First Grade
The Stingrays played UNSW and started strongly with early assaults on the UNSW goal. The UNSW girls tried hard but were unable to match the marauding Stingrays. Half time score was 7-0 with the Michelles Carney & Heyman showing the way with 6 goals between them. The first goal was scored by Taryn Ruiz who made a strong showing after coming back from injury. Early in the second half Carney and Heyman added to their impressive tallies with Carney reaching 5 and  Heyman 3. Coach Darren Sewalt took Heyman off and gave 16 year old Talitha Kramer a run with the first grade she responded with 2 goals. The team is playing well as a unit and has set itself some goals for the season, high priority is to get the club back to Premier League. Christie Akid also scored a double and veteran Erica Halloway scored with one own goal making up the tally. The defence were rarely challenged but did their job by bringing the ball out quickly for the mid field.

Coach John Carrasco – Reserve Grade
Reserve grade continued their scoring spree, winning 8-1 against UNSW. We dominated the whole game, keeping possession for long periods of time and using our speed on the flanks with great success. The only downer was conceding our first goal of the season. Man of the match was Talitha who scored 4 goals and caused havoc to the opposition defence with her speed. Also a great game for Hannah, Stoj and Kaylie.

Final Score 8-1

Coach Martin Madden – U/14’s
With JJ Kelly Park coming up well, after a week of rain, the team was keen to have a run. The first half started with the Stingrays playing nervous football and allowing UNSW to put us under some pressure. Once the nerves settled, we started to push the ball around which generated several chances on goal, testing out the UNSW goalkeeper. Several of our shots being taken too far out or sprayed wide of the goals. Half time score 0 – 0.

The second half started as the first finished with the Stingrays controlling the game, and an early strike on goal saw the UNSW keeper miss-judging a shot from Sophie from 20 meters out to see the ball roll into the back of the net, one nil up. We continue to create chances after chances to only see our final efforts save by the goalkeeper, hit the post or completely missing the target. We final hit the back of the net with a good build up from the right and a low cross hit into the six yard box with a simple tap in by Stefanie to see it disallowed for offside. Overall we controlled the game well but our shooting and final decision making, let us down from scoring several goals.

Final Score 1 - 0

U/12’s – Coach Michael Southwell
Game 4 saw the Stingrays with a 2 - 0 victory over University of NSW with goals to Logan Garrard and Michelle Jugow (her first for the season). Strong performances also by Natalie in midfield and Leah in defence helped us to our third clean sheet for the season.

Final score 2 - 0
